WORLD MAPS

Although not essential to the reading experience, I know many readers who enjoy fantasy stories also like to pore over a world map. I’ll often work on a rough sketch map while writing. The core information will be there from the start and then, as new ideas occur to me, I’ll flesh out the world with further detail as I go along. My stories take place in the fantasy world of Amuran.

Western Valistria

The western half of the continent of Valistria is the land in which The Brotherhood of the Eagle series is set. This shows the Laskan clan lands together with the kingdoms of Beria, Mirtan and Sunis in more detail. This map and the one below were both were both drawn by illustrator Dewi Hargreaves, based on my original hand-drawn versions.

Eastern Valistria

The eastern half of the continent of Valistria is where the kingdoms of Oomrhat and Lagash are located. At this stage I’m working on a few ideas which would allow me to utilise this wider world. This might be through short stories, a prequel standalone novel or potentially a new series.

Laskar

Laskar is the detailed setting for The Brotherhood of the Eagle series and this is the map you’ll find in the novels. Laskar lies in the north of western Valistria and the events of The Brotherhood of the Eagle mainly centre on the lands surrounding the Redfars Sea. The Wolf Throne short story series takes place on the western portion of this map, featuring the Vittag clan lands bordering the Forest of Mordis (note White Oak is not pictured).

Samarakand

My first standalone novel, A Quiet Vengeance, is also set in Amuran but on a separate continent to the south of Valistria, known as Samarakand. This is the accompanying map you’ll find in the novel. As these stories will take place across a larger set of countries and city states, the map’s styling is more stripped back, only focusing on the key geopolitical details.
